The Family Ruin – “Let’s Go”: Hard Rock Daddy Review

The Family Ruin Band Photo

The melodic opening guitar riff of “Let’s Go” by The Family Ruin was an attention-grabber when it came on SiriusXM’s Octane recently.  With a unique, clean sound, it has a suspense-building, cinematic quality that keeps you intrigued to see what happens next.  What follows is a heavy, melodic, high-energy track with intense drumming and dynamic vocals, much like the music that has turned bands like Asking Alexandria (and side project We Are Harlot) into rising stars of modern-day hard rock.  This similarity to Asking Alexandria (in a good way) is not exactly coincidental; “nepotism” has factored into the launching of The Family Ruin’s career.

British bands led the charge at the pinnacle of hard rock and heavy metal in the 70s and 80s, bringing some of the most timeless music ever recorded in the genre to America.  Are we on the precipice of another British invasion?  It’s too soon to say for sure, but if there is one, we may have Asking Alexandria guitarist, Ben Bruce, and manager, Kyle Borman, to thank for it.  The duo has teamed up to form KBB Records, signing The Family Ruin as the second artist on the label.

KBB Records is yet another example of how the music industry has changed over the years.  The clear lines of demarcation that once existed between label, manager and artist have been blurred or wiped out entirely in many instances.

The direct connection to an established artist like Asking Alexandria is something that will give The Family Ruin a leg up on other new artists as they fight to rise above the din in the heavily-populated hard rock music genre.

The Family Ruin will be releasing their debut album, Dearly Departed, on September 23rd.  Check out the lyric video for “Let’s Go” (below) to get a taste of what the band has to offer.  If you are a fan of bands like Asking Alexandria, We Are Harlot and Escape The Fate, there is no doubt that you will be a fan of The Family Ruin as well.
